Precision Gem

Gem 1024 - Spessartite Garnet - 3.30 ct. This stone from Nigeria is cut in my Star 80 Design. The stone is from a newer pocket in Nigeria that is producing these deeper colored spessartites with a red modifier. The stones have very strong saturation but are more of burnt orange/red color than the Tanzanian stones. This one measures 9.14 mm point to point and 7.93 mm across the flats.

Gem 1015 - Malaya Garnet - 2.80 ct. This stone is from a new find in the Tunduru area of Tanzania. The Malaya garnets from the region are more orange then most of the others I have seen. This stone measures 8.55 x 8 mm across the flats.

Gem 1009 - Spessartite Garnet - 2.63 ct. One of the more orange stones I got from Lolatema Tanzania, with less yellow than most. This one is cut in a square emerald shape with a brilliant pavilion. As with all the spessartite from this are, there are fine "sugar" type inclusions, but this one looks much cleaner in person than in the photo. Measures 7.65 mm.

Gem 967 - Yellow Grossularite Garnet - 13.04 ct. I bought this stone about a year ago, and had very high expectations for it. It was large, well shaped, nice color, but had a very granular outside, so it was tough to see in it. I paid $1200 for the stone. Well, it turns out, it's not that clean, has some bubbles, and the crystal is not glassy. It's an interesting stone, nice size, and I'm taking a bath on it. Measures 14 mm.

Gem 964 - Malaya Garnet - 1.93 ct. This one is a more orange malaya from Tanzania. It's cut in an 8 sided design with a swirl effect in the faceting, much like a pinwheel. The stone measures 7.20 across the flats, and 7.77 from point to point. As with the other Malaya garnets, this one is from Tanzania.

Gem 842 - Malaya Garnet - 1.52 ct. This one is more of an orange color Malaya garnet from Tanzania. This is cut in a modified version of my Star 80 design, with a slightly more traditional crown. Measures 7 mm.

Gem 624 - Malaya Garnet - 1.9 ct. This Malaya is more on the orange side, and is cut with concave facets on the pavilion. Everything is cut in a swirl fashion. Measures 7.5 mm. Color 4, Clarity 4+

Gem 599- Malaya Garnet - 1.48 ct. This one is a modified round, with some extra cutting on the crown. The stone measures 6.77 mm and is more of an orange color for a Malaya garnet. Color 4, Clarity 4.
